We are very excited to announce that here at Scoil Naomh Treasa we are embarking on a new adventure. We have decided to take part in the Amber Flag Initiative this year to promote positive mental health and well-being in our school.
It is well documented that positive mental health and well-being enables young people to lead fulfilling lives. Home and family are recognised as the primary source of nurturing and support for children. However, mental health and well-being are recognised as everyone’s concern. It involves the whole school community, parents/guardians and the many others involved in day to day life of the child. Positive mental health for children is part of their overall health and is inextricably linked with well-being.
Our Aim: To Promote Positive Mental Health at School
Our Goals (2018/2019 School Year):
- Goal 1: To create an Amber Flag notice board in the school, promoting positive mental health strategies.
Date Achieved: October 2018- March 2019
- Goal 2: To hold a Fundraising Event for Childline and Awareness Day to promote positive mental health.
Date Achieved: Wednesday, 10th of October 2018
- Goal 3: To hold a Fundraising Event for Pieta House and Awareness Day to promote positive mental health in our school
Date Achieved: Friday, 15th of February 2019
- Goal 4: To hold a Design a Poster Competition within the school to raise awareness of positive mental health strategies.
Date Achieved: Friday, the 8th of March 2019
In order to undertake these activities, we have formed an Amber Flag Committee. This committee consists of Ms. Flynn and the student council; Alex, Ryan, Skye, Amy, Gleb and Abi.
Furthermore, on Wednesday, the 10th of October 2018, the school has registered to take part in the Great Headbomz assembly to mark World Mental Health Day. On the day, the children will take part in activities which support a positive mind and body.
If you have any concerns or questions regarding the Amber Flag Initiative, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Flynn or Ms. Dunne.
